Previous Projects

We have successfully completed numerous projects, too many to list individually. Below, we highlight several diverse solutions we've provided in commercial solar, showcasing our ability to tailor systems to meet a variety of business needs.

Dairy Farming

01

Case Study: Sustainable Energy Solutions for a Dairy Farm

Overview: In an innovative approach to managing operational costs, a dairy farmer leveraged his land as collateral to finance the installation of a solar diversion system. Specializing in cow farming, the farmer faced high energy bills due to substantial hot water usage essential for dairy operations.

Project Details: The installation was tailored to harness solar energy to heat water, a critical resource in dairy farming for cleaning and processing. Given the farm's specific energy consumption patterns and the scale of hot water demand, it was determined that incorporating battery storage would not be cost-effective.

Financial Impact: The solar diversion system significantly reduced the farm's energy expenses. The savings generated from lower utility bills were substantial enough to repay the borrowed funds. The financial model effectively made the system cost-neutral to the farmer in 5 years.

Outcome: Post-installation, the farmer now benefits from a sustainable energy system that consistently meets the farm's hot water needs without incurring high energy costs. This solution not only enhances the farm's operational efficiency but also contributes to environmental sustainability by reducing dependency on non-renewable energy sources.

Key Takeaway: This project exemplifies how tailored solar solutions can provide significant financial and operational benefits in agriculture, particularly in high-energy-use scenarios like dairy farming. The decision against battery storage was made to optimize costs and focus investment on immediate energy needs, demonstrating a strategic approach to renewable energy adoption.

Case Study: Enhancing Energy Efficiency in a Craft Brewery

Beer Maker

Overview: A regional brewery sought to decrease its carbon footprint and energy costs by implementing a comprehensive energy management system. The brewery installed solar photovoltaic (PV) panels coupled with battery storage and a hot water storage solution, aligning with its sustainability goals and the unique demands of beer production.

Project Details: The brewery's operations required a significant and consistent supply of both electrical power and hot water. The solution integrated:

  • Solar PV Panels: These panels were installed across available rooftop spaces to generate electricity, harnessing sunlight most efficiently during peak daytime hours when brewery operations were most active.

  • Battery Storage System: To maximize the utility of the generated solar power, the brewery employed a large-scale battery storage system. This system stored excess electricity produced during peak sunlight for use during non-peak hours, ensuring a steady supply of power, especially during early morning and late evening production runs.

  • Thermal Energy Storage: The system also included a 27kW power diverter, where excess solar energy was used to heat water that was stored and utilized throughout the brewing process, from mashing to cleaning.

Financial Impact: The implementation of these systems led to a dramatic reduction in energy costs. The brewery used solar energy for approximately 75% of its total energy needs, significantly cutting down on electricity purchases from the grid. The cost savings from the reduced energy expenditure provided a return on investment within five years, after which the brewery benefited from almost free electricity and hot water.

Outcome: This integrated approach not only significantly reduced the brewery’s operational costs but also reinforced its reputation as an environmentally responsible business. The brewery's innovative use of solar PV and storage systems became a model for sustainable practices in the industry, attracting environmentally conscious consumers and setting a benchmark for competitors.

Key Takeaway: The brewery’s project highlights the advantages of using a combination of solar PV, battery, and thermal storage to meet the specific energy demands of beer production. This case illustrates how integrating multiple renewable technologies can provide substantial economic benefits and environmental impact reductions, making it a compelling choice for energy-intensive industries.
